Our Purpose

We exist so the organizations serving overlooked communities have digital infrastructure as strong as their missions.

Jordan and team are super responsive and wonderful to work with. They implement any changes that are noted very quickly, and do things based on expertise and best practices that us as clients don't even consider but need.

Why we exist

The organizations doing some of the most essential work are often the last to get well-built technology. A rural transit agency, an Indigenous health center, a community-based organization running on grants: their websites and systems carry real weight. A rider checks whether the bus is running in a snowstorm. A family looks up a clinic’s hours. A resident tries to complete a form with a screen reader.

The communities these organizations serve aren’t invisible. They’re overlooked: not thought of when platforms are designed, when standards are written, and when budgets are decided. The consequences are usually unintended, and they land on the people least able to absorb them.

Digital Mountaineers exists to close that gap. We bring the strategy, accessibility, and engineering that large institutions take for granted to the nonprofits, public agencies, and CBOs that serve overlooked communities, and we help them hold a seat at the table when digital decisions are made.

The communities these organizations serve aren’t invisible.
They’re overlooked.

What that means for you

  • We’ve sat in your chair

Most of our team comes from nonprofits, and our leadership has governed a $55M+ public school budget and led nonprofit boards. We plan around board approvals, grant cycles, procurement rules, and public scrutiny because we’ve lived with them.

  • Accessible by default

WCAG 2.2 Level AA is our starting point, not an upgrade. If a resident using a screen reader, a phone on a weak signal, or a second language can’t use it, it isn’t finished.

  • Strategy before software

We start with your mission, your people, and your constraints, then recommend technology. Sometimes the right answer is fewer tools, not more.

  • Built for you to own

Documentation, training, and no lock-in. Your team should be able to run what we build without needing us, even though we hope you’ll want us around.

  • Every dollar is accountable

Donor, grant, and public dollars deserve clear scopes, honest estimates, and reporting your board and funders can read.

  • Partners for the long climb

We choose work based on shared values, and we stay. Some of our client relationships go back nearly a decade.

Giving back is part of the work

Each year we donate websites, branding, and digital marketing to organizations whose work strengthens their communities, and we maintain the Positive Impact Directory to point people toward organizations worth supporting. We’re also a partner of Tech to the Rescue, which matches nonprofits with pro bono technology help.
