Get to know Jan Falk! Jan is originally from Northern Virginia. She graduated with her MSW from the University of Maryland and moved to Bend, OR. She has been a licensed mental health clinician in private practice since 1990 in California, Oregon, and Virginia.
Welcome, Jan! Could you tell us a bit about your background?
I founded an organization, Family Resolution of the Cascades in Central Oregon that provides custody evaluation, Parenting Agreements, Mediation and expert testimony in contentious divorce. Prior to that, I served as Executive Director of five nonprofits including Healthcare for All Oregon, NAMI of Massachusetts, St. Francis House in Boston, the Center for Human Development, and Shelter Against Violence.
Why did you want to work here?
I am excited to work with such amazing volunteers and staff. Truly the most altruistic humans on earth!
What about our mission appeals to you?
Pope Francis’ teachings, a commitment to solidarity, responsibility and compassionate care for all humanity including special attention to the needs of the poor and disenfranchised among us.
What are your favorite pastimes?
I have three adult sons who are incredible humans, I love hanging out with them exploring LA and the world! I enjoy spending time hiking trails and mountains. I love backpacking, kayaking, and walking my three dogs in nature.
What is your hope for the future of SFC and our community?
I hope we continue to provide services to the poor and homeless that preserves and models dignity.
